Naval Service Engineer

About us

We are a European scale up dedicated to developing cutting-edge, automated wind-assisted propulsion systems. Our goal is to provide a turnkey solution for shipowners and shipping companies who seek to reduce fuel costs and emissions. Our vision is simple yet ambitious – we aim to power the world with wind.

Imagine a world where the vast oceans are effortlessly traversed using the clean and boundless power of the wind. At bound4blue, we are turning this dream into reality. We're not just creating wind propulsion systems but revolutionizing the maritime industry, one sustainable voyage at a time. While bringing sails back to ships may seem challenging, we are more than prepared for it. We are innovators who understand the perfect harmony between nature and technology.

About the role:

The Naval Service Engineer plays a critical role in providing operational and engineering support to marine vessels, ensuring optimal performance, efficient fuel consumption, and reduced environmental impact.

This role involves both on-board and on-land responsibilities, including installation, commissioning, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our eSail systems.
The role requires substantial customer interaction and coordination with multiple teams and external vendors, offering a unique opportunity to directly influence the maritime sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational and technical support to client crews, including formal and informal training, and hands‑on troubleshooting assistance, ensuring safe, compliant, and effective problem resolution.

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute onboard inspections and maintenance activities (both mechanical and electrical), particularly during critical operations, commissioning phases, and fault investigations, ensuring regulatory compliance, risk identification, and system integrity.

  • Deliver high‑quality technical support to internal and external stakeholders, both remotely and on site, with the objective of maximizing system reliability, operational performance, and production continuity.

  • Perform technical analysis and condition evaluations, documenting findings and formulating data‑driven recommendations to improve system design and reliability.

  • Execute sea trials, ensuring accurate performance recording, structured reporting, and identification of optimization opportunities to enhance system performance and reliability.

  • Review internal inventory levels and and report needs to Naval Service Engineers.

  • Collaborate closely with management and engineering teams on repairs, modifications, and overhauls, ensuring full compliance with safety regulations, class requirements, and applicable industry standards.

  • Maintain complete, accurate, and auditable technical documentation, including service reports, inspection records, and maintenance logs, supporting traceability and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Provide technical support to Production and Engineering functions during factory assembly, commissioning, initial testing, and sea trials, ensuring correct system integration and functional validation.

Required competencies:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in marine operations, vessel commissioning, maintenance, and system optimization.

  • FPII o Ciclo Formation Grado Superior (CFGS) in mechanical and/or mechatronics. Onboard experience is a must.

  • Willingness and availability to Travel/Embark: Must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time, including extended stays on vessels for installation, maintenance, and Sea Trials.

  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, components, and tools.

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints and schematics.

  • Experience with mechanical and electrical maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and deadlines.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety protocols.

  • Language Skills: Fluency in both written and spoken English and Spanish is required.
