OceanScore acts as the appointed Administrator of the Environmental Ship Index (ESI), one of the most widely recognised environmental performance frameworks in global shipping, on behalf of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH). As Marine Verification Manager, you contribute to the integrity and credibility of the ESI by ensuring that environmental performance data submitted by participating vessels is accurate, reliable, and assessed consistently. Through carrying out remote verification or coordinating third-party onboarding verification where required and act as a technical point of contact for shipping companies, ports, and verification partners worldwide you support the robustness of the ESI framework and leverage it’s credibility.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Verification of Vessel Data: You review and verify vessel environmental performance data submitted under the ESI framework, ensuring consistency, reliability, and alignment with applicable regulations and certification standards.

  • Coordination of Third-Party Verifications: You coordinate onboard verifications carried out by external surveyors where required, ensuring findings are properly integrated into the verification process.

  • Documentation Review & Compliance Assessment: You assess technical documentation related to engine certification, emissions performance, and fuel use. Identify inconsistencies, gaps, or risks in reported data.

  • Remote Assessments & Verification Reporting: You conduct structured remote verification assessments and prepare clear, well-documented verification reports including findings, non-conformities, and corrective actions.

  • Stakeholder Engagement: You act as a technical contact for shipowners, ship managers, and maritime stakeholders to clarify verification findings and support the submission of accurate environmental performance data.

  • Continuous Improvement of Verification Processes: You contribute to the ongoing development of ESI verification procedures, including risk-based targeting and the transition to the ESI Core framework.

What You Bring

  • You have a Marine Engineering, Nautical, or comparable maritime degree (MSc or BSc).

  • You have gained at least 3-5 years of professional experience in the maritime industry, for example as Technical Superintendent, Classification Society Surveyor, Flag or Port State Control Officer, Designated Person Ashore (DPA), or ISM Internal Auditor.

  • You have strong understanding of MARPOL Annex VI and ship emission regulations as well as IMO DCS, EU MRV, EU ETS, or similar GHG reporting frameworks.

  • You bring prior experience with ship verifications, surveys, or compliance audits and feel comfortable being the expert on technical ship documentation and operational vessel data.

  • Experience with remote verifications, alternative fuels, or environmental compliance systems is an advantage.

How You Work

  • You apply structured analytical thinking when assessing technical information.

  • You combine technical judgement with a pragmatic, solution-oriented mindset.

  • You communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical maritime stakeholders.

  • You maintain a high level of professional integrity and independence when conducting verification work.

  • You enjoy working in an environment where technical expertise meets innovation and digital tools.
